Hong Kong Airport passenger traffic posts solid rise in August

HONG KONG. Passenger traffic at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) climbed by a solid +5.7% year-on-year in August to 6.51 million.

The growth was mainly driven by a +7% rise in transfers/transits, and +6% growth in Hong Kong resident travel. Growth in the Japanese market continued to be the major contributor during the month, while European traffic also recorded significant increases.

In the first eight months of 2017, passenger throughput increased by +2.2% to 48.8 million. On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA handled 72 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of +1.6%.

In other news, HKIA’s official mobile app, HKG MyFlight, won a major digital award from the Chamber of Hong Kong Computer Industry and Metro Radio.

The airport’s app captured the Digital Brand Award 2017 in the Software and Mobile App Category. The application provides passengers with airport-related information such as real-time flight status, maps, carpark spaces, SkyPier ferry schedules, as well as transportation options to and from the airport. Since its launch in 2013, the application has been downloaded nearly one million times.
