HMSHost wins contracts for 14 food & beverage locations at major Chinese airports

CHINA. HMSHost International has signed concession deals potentially worth an annual €65 million with two major Chinese airports. The company has won a five-year contract to open eight food & beverage locations at Shanghai Pudong International, and a four-year contract at Beijing Daxing International for six locations.

Under the agreements, 85% of the new locations will be fully operational before China celebrates its national day on 1 October 2019. The contract wins build on HMSHost’s momentum in the Chinese market, which it entered three years ago. It is currently responsible for ten F&B venues at Beijing Capital International Airport.

A café featuring the Belgian chocolates of Godiva will be opened by HMSHost at Beijing Daxing International.

At Shanghai Pudong International, the ninth-busiest airport in the world, HMSHost will open Element Fresh, two Tasty Congee restaurants, The Dining Room, Tarhar Silk Road, Bon, Menyamusashi and Unagi Joy House. The company said it estimated the potential annual turnover at these dining venues to be in excess of €50 million (US$56.1 million).

Cakes will be the main offering in Shu Xing Pang at Beijing Daxing International.

Element Fresh specialises in gourmet salads, Tasty Congee will serve Hong Kong cuisine, while The Dining Room and Tarhar Silk Road each offer Chinese breakfast, lunch or dinner. Bon, Menyamusashi and Unagi Joy House will all specialise in Asian foods.

Element Fresh specialises in gourmet salads, fresh fruit juices, smoothies, brunch and afternoon tea.

At the new Beijing Daxing International airport, which is currently undergoing construction, HMSHost will introduce F&B brands Element Fresh, Shu Xing Pang, The Dining Room, Crystal Jade, Urban Food Market, and Godiva Café. The company estimates this business to be worth more than €15 million (US$16.83 million) annually.

The kiosk concept Urban Food Market will offer a selection of drinks, fresh juices and savoury snacks.

Shu Xing Pang will offer cakes and refreshments, while The Dining Room will serve Chinese dishes. Crystal Jade is a Singapore-based Michelin-starred culinary brand specialising in Chinese cuisine, Urban Food Market is a HMSHost own-brand offering savoury snacks and refreshments, and Godiva Café will specialise in coffee and Belgian chocolates.

Unagi Joy House at Shanghai Pudong International will specialise in Asian cuisine.

HMSHost International CEO Walter Seib said: “Three years ago we entered in the Chinese market and we have been successful in setting up a business in the Beijing Capital International Airport, which holds the highest passenger throughput.

The facilities at The Dining Room will include a cold dish and dim sum kitchen.

“To be able to add two international airports into our landscape, and in such a short time frame, strengthens my opinion that China has a great growth potential for our business.”
