Helping hand: HMSHost’s Pepper robot lands at three new North American airports

USA. HMSHost has introduced its humanoid robot Pepper to three new North American airports.

The four-foot-tall robot is now engaging with passengers at Avenue des Canadiens in Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (in French and English), Burgundy & Gold Club in Washington Dulles International Airport and Point the Way Café in Los Angeles International Airport.

Multi-lingual: Pepper has the ability to communicate with travellers in several languages

Pepper greets and engages travelling guests, provides menu details and offers menu recommendations. Pepper customises her features for each airport so her interactions with travellers will vary depending on the location.

At select locations, Pepper helps travellers with airport directions such as gates, the nearest restrooms and finding other HMSHost-managed food & beverage options throughout the airport.

HMSHost Vice President of Innovation Jim Schmitz commented: “HMSHost is the industry leader in culinary innovation, but we’re also at the forefront of bringing travellers the latest airport dining technology to help ease their travels.

“We are excited to bring something as unique and entertaining as Pepper to help us further enhance the experience we offer our guests. We’re thankful to these airports for being willing to explore innovative methods with us that bring new ways to elevate travellers’ journeys.”

Pepper was introduced to her first North American airport, Oakland International, in January 2017 through a pilot programme with SoftBank Robotics America.
