George Tsoukalas takes on the Managing Director role as Heinemann Australia begins to rebuild, with international travel resuming from Sydney in November

AUSTRALIA. Heinemann Asia Pacific has named George Tsoukalas as Managing Director of Heinemann Australia, effective from 17 January 2022. Currently Head of Marketing and Category Management at the company, Tsoukalas will take over from Richard Goodman, who is leaving for a new role outside the travel retail industry.

George Tsoukalas: Long track record of experience in retail and beauty

Tsoukalas said: “I am honoured to take on the Managing Directorship for our amazing team and look forward to continuing my close collaboration with our leadership team in Australia and Singapore.”

Tsoukalas joined Heinemann Australia in 2019 as Head of Operations before moving to his current role in March 2021. He worked with the rest of the Australian leadership team to steer the business through the COVID-19 crisis. Before joining Heinemann he held several leadership roles in the retail and beauty industries, including at Scentre Group (owner and operator of Westfield Shopping Centres) for seven years.

Heinemann Asia Pacific Chief Operating Officer Johannes Sammann said: “We thank Richard Goodman for his five years of service to Heinemann and wish him all the best success in his next chapter.

“George has been with Heinemann for a number of years and brings with him a depth and breadth of experience in our sector, both from the brand and retailer perspective. He is a great example of our core Heinemann value of leading through trust and he is the right person to guide our business through recovery.”

Heinemann has held the duty free concession at Sydney Airport since 2015, a contract extended in 2019 for a further ten years to 2029. It has run the duty free operation at Gold Coast Airport since 2018.
