Heathrow welcomes record number of passengers in September

UK. Passenger traffic at Heathrow Airport increased +0.4% year-on-year to a record 6.8 million in September.

Emerging market passenger growth was strong, with traffic to and from China up +7% and Mexico and India both up +5%, the airport company said.

Passenger numbers from the Middle East increased +13% to 636,000 last month, while traffic from the Asia Pacific region rose +3.9% to 930,000. UK-based passengers fell -9.5% in September to 420,000.

During the first nine months of 2016, Heathrow welcomed 57.3 million passengers, a +0.7% increase compared to the same period in 2015. The Middle East posted the largest increase, up +8.3% to 5.2 million. Next was Asia Pacific, ahead +3.2% to 8.2 million, and Latin America which increased +3.1% to 933,000.
