Haribo aims to mark 100th anniversary with impact at Virtual Travel Retail Expo

Family-owned German confectionery brand Haribo celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. And it is marking the milestone by adding a dash of colour to its environment and ranges at the Moodie Davitt Virtual Travel Retail Expo.

A Silver Partner (#Virtual Stand CF-S6), Haribo will showcase the latest additions to its travel retail portfolio, including the new Haribo Giant Dummies, a selection of jelly snacks shaped like pacifiers in five fruity flavours.

Founded in December 1920, Haribo said that its products have not only been synonymous with “creating little moments of happiness”.

Haribo said it has grown and developed its global business “through good times and bad”. The company produces hundreds of different products at 16 production sites across ten countries.

Haribo was founded by Hans Riegel (Senior) in Bonn, North Rhine-Westphalia. Its name is an acronym of Hans Riegel Bonn.

Riegel launched his sweet production in a small kitchen with nothing more than a sack of sugar, a marble slab, a stool, stove, copper pot and a rolling pin. His wife, Gertrud, was the company’s first employee a year later.

Haribo’s first gummy bear, a Dancing Bear, was created in 1922.

Its sweets are now available in over 100 countries. The company says part of its success internationally lies in the production of products whose flavours are specially tailored to local preferences in different countries.

Haribo Head of Marketing Global Travel Retail Elisa Fontana: “We expect business to bounce back and Haribo intends to be at the forefront of that recovery”

Haribo Head of Marketing Global Travel Retail Elisa Fontana said: “The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our industry severely over the last six months. At Haribo we expect the recovery to be gradual as passengers rediscover the joy of travelling and resume their shopping at airports and on ferries.

“However, we do expect the business to bounce back and Haribo intends to be at the forefront of that recovery. We intend to reclaim our pre-eminent position in sugar confectionery and put the smiles back on the faces of travellers.”

At the Expo, Haribo will highlight its new Haribo Giant Dummies, a selection of jelly snacks shaped like pacifiers in five fruity flavours.

The colourful Haribo Mini Travel Suitcase is filled with a 146g assortment of Haribo Goldbear minis, Happy Cola minis, Roulette Happy Cola and Roulette fruit. The most recent addition to the brand’s resealable pouch range, the sweet and sour Haribo Twin Snakes will also be featured.
