Harding Retail extends US cruiseship business and opens Miami office

USA/INTERNATIONAL. Flemingo-owned Harding Retail has opened a Miami office to service its fast-expanding US cruiseship business. The move followed the company’s securing of an onboard retail contract earlier this year for ten Carnival Cruise Line ships.

The development was unveiled at a Flemingo business partners evening in Cannes this week by Flemingo Board Director Paul Topping and Harding Retail Managing Director James Prescott.

“We took over ten ships in around three months… which is unprecedented,” said Prescott, who said the business has performed strongly following a refinement of the offer.

The Harding Retail portfolio includes over 250 shops on 62 cruise ships.

In another key contractual development, Flemingo has extended its exclusive inflight retail supply contract in Turkey, covering all carriers that offer onboard duty free (Turkish Airlines does not). This key concession has been renewed for an additional five-and-a-half years.

In India, Topping revealed, Flemingo has won an inflight retail contract with Jet. And elsewhere in India, the company has begun an ambitious store opening programme following its securing of ten new contracts from Airports Authority of India. The duty free departures store at Chennai International Airport will be followed soon by a new arrivals shop.

Flemingo has plans to develop the stores under the ‘Go Flemingo’ branding (more details in coming weeks).

“We are now in 21 locations in India,” Topping revealed. The key operation is at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai, where Flemingo is embarking on an ambitious consumer awareness campaign to promote the airport as the home of Bollywood.

Elsewhere the company has closed its retail operations in Malaysia and Paraguay.
