Guadalajara International Airport to issue speciality retail RFP

MEXICO. Guadalajara (GDL) International Airport is set to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) for 23 specialty retail outlets at the international boarding lounge.

GDL is run by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), which also operates another 11 airports in Mexico and two in Jamaica.

Guadalajara International Airport is the gateway to a vast metropolis with the second-highest population density in Mexico. The airport is expected to return to pre-pandemic passenger levels by the end of the year.

GDL is currently undergoing reconstruction. The bid process will be released and executed during the refurbishment of the entire international lounge. The lounge remodelling will include several commercial areas for retail, duty free shops and food & beverage units.

The first stage of the RFP includes 1,645sq m of commercial area that will be refurbished. It embraces retail stores dedicated to the speciality retail categories shown in the table below:

The remaining opportunities will be launched on different dates according to a new calendar that will be shared with all participants. These new RFPs will include F&B and more retail units.

GDL said that the successful bidders will provide high-quality products and a wide variety of brands that meet the expectation of the passengers.

Sealed proposals in packages must be received at GAP headquarters by a specified date and time (details to follow in a subsequent report)

GAP will conduct two information sessions on 17 August, one at 10:30 and the other at 15:00 (Centre of Mexico time). A registration link will be enabled on the website mentioned above. It is obligatory for all persons and companies interested in participating to register their attendance.

Guadalajara is a metropolis in western Mexico and the capital of the state of Jalisco.

Guadalajara International Airport was built in 1966 and is located 16 kilometres from the city of Guadalajara. It is the third-busiest airport in Mexico behind Aeropuerto Internacional Benito Juárez (Mexico City) and Cancun International Airport and the second-busiest for air cargo flights. It has two runways and a second terminal will be built soon.

The airport operates flights to and from multiple destinations in Mexico, Central America and the US.

Guadalajara International Airport served 12.26 million total passengers during 2021, of which 30% were international and the rest domestic travellers. It is estimated that by the end of 2022 the airport will have reached 100% recovery of pre-pandemic 2019 traffic volumes.
