CHINA. Travel prospects for the hugely important upcoming Golden Week holidays (1-7 October) have been boosted by encouraging progress in Fujian province against the recent COVID-19 outbreak.
“Putian, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou and other cities in Fujian Province have seen zero infection for several days in a row. The number of new cases in Xiamen has been kept within single digits, and the number of discharged patients is growing… it can be judged that the epidemic prevention and control in Fujian has obviously achieved phased progress,” Fujian Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Fujian CDC) Director Zheng Kuicheng, told media on Monday, in remarks quoted by state media Global Times.
Since 10 September, 462 locally transmitted cases had been reported in Fujian, including 415 hospitalized cases, with no death. “Fujian is steadily returning to normal working and life order,” the report said.
“Faced with the current situation, Zheng said there may still be individual cases, but they [Fujian CDC] will continue to consolidate achievements and work hard to prevent a rebound of the epidemic.”
According to the National Health Commission of the People’s Republic of China there were just 13 indigenous cases reported on Monday (27 September), 11 of them in Harbin, Heilongjiang province and 2 in Xiamen, Fujian province.
This followed daily national counts of 13, 9 and 10 in the previous three days, well down on the 42 recorded on 20 September.
