Golden touch: Areas takes road to El Dorado Airport with 10-year food & beverage contract win

COLOMBIA. Areas has won a 10-year contract to manage eight food & beverage outlets at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá. It marks the Spain-based company’s entry into the Colombian market.

The airport is managed by the Operadora Aeroportuaria Internacional (OPAIN) consortium, which is comprised of Colombian construction and engineering firms and the Swiss company Flughafen Zürich.

Areas will be responsible for revamping and managing the eight outlets, which include Novecento, Carl’s Jr., Juan Valdez Café, and Deli&Cia. The contract is expected to generate an estimated US$14 million in sales per year, and around 230 jobs will be created.

Areas will renovate a 20,000sq ft food & beverage area and manage eight outlets

The company will invest in renovating a 20,000sq ft food & beverage area, which is scheduled to open in summer 2017. The infrastructure will be reformed to feature better equipment and furniture, enhanced communication elements, and an improved general design of the outlets, Areas said.

“We are very happy to move into Colombia, one of the countries with the greatest potential in Latin America,” said Areas CEO for Spain, Portugal, and Latin America Oscar Vela. “This project will give us a strong presence at El Dorado Airport, the third largest by passenger traffic in Latin America.

“The contract will also drive a solid base in Colombia that we can leverage into growth across other airports throughout the country. We want Colombia to become a core market for us in Latin America.”
