Going green: HMSHost’s Café Flor opens in Pier D at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

NETHERLANDS. HMSHost-operated healthy eating establishment Café Flor has become the first full-service restaurant to open in Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s refurbished Pier D.

The green-themed food & beverage concept – with partners including local restaurant chain The Avocado Show and Illy Coffee – is offering all-day breakfast options including avocado toast and eggs benedict. Also available are salad bowls, sandwiches, fresh pastries and treats. The drinks menu features a signature botanical gin and tonic and freshly-squeezed fruit juices.

An added attraction of the restaurant is Café Flor’s piano, which is available for customers to use for free.

HMSHost Schiphol General Manager Ad Willemsen said: “Café Flor is a beautiful slice of peace in the airport where you can escape the rush. At our new full-service restaurant you can treat yourself to healthy and tasty food items you may enjoy once in a while.”

The colour and themes of Café Flor fit with the green-dominated overhaul of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol’s Pier D. The pier, home to 32 gates, features green walls, floor to ceiling plants and two green-roofed patios.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Head of Retail, Food & Beverage and Commercial Services Irene Muysson added: “Passengers spend a relatively large amount of time on our piers. With this full-service concept in the heart of Pier D, we offer improved service and experience en route to the gates. Café Flor is a pleasant stopover with a homely atmosphere.

“During the development, we worked closely with our long-term partner HMSHost and we are proud of the fact that brands such as The Avocado Show and Illy are part of this new concept.”
