Going for gold – Paul John XO claims top honour at World Brandy Awards

Paul John XO – the 100% Indian grape brandy from Bangalore-based John Distilleries – has been rated Gold at the 2021 World Brandy Awards, hosted by Paragraph Publishing in the UK. The expression claimed the award in the Wine Brandy (World) category.

The XO is the distillery’s first venture into the premium brandy segment. Dubbed as “India’s answer to the renowned Cognac and Armagnac”, Paul John XO is made from distilled Ugni Blanc and the rich Bangalore purple grape.

It is matured for over ten years in French Limousin oak barrels and bottled at 46% ABV. Paul John XO is available in selected countries including the USA, UK, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Poland and India.

John Distilleries Chairman Paul P John said: “It’s a great honour for our XO to be awarded Gold at the World Brandy Awards. The appreciation of our single malts had led me to consider venturing into premium brandy and, through research, we discovered Indian grapes, such as the Bangalore Purple, which together with Ugni Blanc, proffered the rare and exotic flavour profile perfect for an XO.”

Paul P John established John Distilleries in 1996. With ten manufacturing units across seven Indian states, the company’s portfolio now includes Original Choice and Paul John whiskies, Mont Castle and Roulette brandies and Big Banyan and Ampersand wines.
