Glossy Matt finish sees English triumph in Moodie Davitt FIFA World Cup competition

INTERNATIONAL. The Moodie Davitt Report’s Chief Technology Officer turned Chief Touchline Observer Matt Willey has triumphed in the Great Moodie Davitt 2018 FIFA World Cup Charity Competition in association with King Power International, writes our Football Correspondent Hedda Ball.

“On your bike,” say fellow English supporters after their countryman Matt Willey picked Belgium to beat England, thus ensuring he won our epic competition. A case of punditry over patriotism.

Matt’s success in correctly picking Belgium to beat England in the 3rd/4th play-off (displaying an appalling lack of patriotism) and France to defeat Croatia saw him sneak ahead of former co-leader, German Steffen Brandt (Co-Founder & Manager of Miami-based travel retail specialist InnoTRI) by just one point. A rare case of a glossy Matt finish.

Loch Lomond Group’s Andre de Almeida was just one point further back to take the third of our special prizes.

Courtesy of our wonderful sponsor, King Power International of Thailand, the following prize monies are being awarded to the chosen charities of the winning contestants:

1st – €3,000

2nd – €2,000

3rd – €1,000

The three chosen charities are:

  1. Matt Willey:  St Thomas in Sutton-in-Craven Church (Yorkshire), which runs several community projects, particularly for the elderly, young people and needy families. “They do a lot of great work but are always struggling for money to keep it going – this will make a massive difference to them,” says Matt.
  2. Long-time league leader Steffen Brandt was pipped at the finish but still went a lot further in the World Cup than his national team.

Steffen Brandt: Baby Bulls Miami, a fantastic organisation that helps underprivileged children improve their reading and writing.

  3. Andre de Almeida: An outstanding drinks industry charity called The Benevolent, which provides help and support to current and former employees of the drinks industry and their families.

Close but no cigar honorary mentions go to Johan Schölvinck, Founder and Managing Director at Market Square Consult in The Netherlands; Argentina-based Scot (and veteran travel retail consultant and journalist) John Gallagher; and the fast-finishing Toms Bergs of Stoli Group.

Sophie Goujet of Concourse Display Management was our top woman on 58, five ahead of her colleague Jess Howells.

Below is the final league table.

Thank you to all who entered and created such a fantastic spirit of industry engagement. And our warm appreciation to King Power International, owner of the mighty flying ‘Foxes’ (Leicester City Football Club).
