Global Exchange makes “milestone” move to Istanbul New Airport

TURKEY. Spanish currency exchange specialist Global Exchange Group has launched its services at Istanbul New Airport. The contract marks an important milestone in the company’s history, consolidating its position as the main foreign currency services operator at Turkish airports.

The company’s Turkish subsidiary – one of the largest in the group – has invested €38 million in the opening of 41 branches and the recruitment of 400 people for its ambitious development. Global Exchange has only been present in Turkey since 2017 when it opened branches at Antalya Airport.

President Isidoro J Alanís said: “This is our largest expansion project both in terms of number of branches and duration of the contract. At Global Exchange Group, we have strongly committed to Turkey, as we are convinced that the evolution of the Turkish Lira assures a double-digit growth of tourism in the upcoming years. Turkey will again become one of the main tourist destinations worldwide.”

The Turkish Lira has been steadily devaluing in recent years against the US Dollar, the Euro and Pound Sterling. Even with a marginal pick-up against the Euro and Pound since mid-2018, Turkey offers very good value to travellers holding these currencies and is expected to drive strong tourism traffic to the country this summer.

Switch from Atatürk Airport

After more than 50 years of service, Atatürk Airport closed its gates for the last time on Saturday 7 April, and all flights were transferred to Istanbul New Airport, where Global Exchange has established itself as the main foreign exchange operator.

The Salamanca-based group – founded in 1996 in Fuentes de Oñoro, a small town on the Spain-Portugal border – claims to be one of the top two global specialists in the provision of currency exchange services at international airports.

The company currently has a network of more than 310 branches in 56 international airports and served about seven million customers in 2018.
