Gebr Heinemann extends Vienna Airport partnership to 2030

AUSTRIA. Gebr Heinemann has promised an enhanced Sense of Place at Vienna Airport after signing an extended agreement to operate at the airport until 2030.

The German retailer has said it will redesign or expand stores across the airport as it increases its retail presence at Austria’s main gateway from 4,000sq m to 5,700sq m.

Heinemann has been present at the airport since 2003

Gebr Heinemann Chief Operating Officer Raoul Spanger said: “I am very delighted with the extension of our joint work, because it not only underlines the confidence of our partner in us, but also reflects the success of our business and our Heinemann brand at Vienna Airport.”

Vienna Airport added that a key element of the agreement would see a greater emphasis on regionality across both the airport’s shopping and F&B areas. This will be achieved by a new shop-in-shop concept for local items and highlighted sales space for typical Austrian products and brands including Manner, Mirabell and Schlumberger. Well-known Viennese sights, such as the Naschmarkt outdoor market, will also increasingly inspire the store design.

“When entering the premises, passengers should immediately notice that they are at Vienna Airport. Together with our longstanding partner Heinemann, we want to bring Austria and more specifically Vienna closer to people in our shopping and restaurant area in a particularly tasteful and friendly manner,“ added Flughafen Wien AG Management Board Member Julian Jäger.

An increased presence for local brands is a core part of the new agreement

The new agreement extends a partnership which goes back to 2003 and currently sees Heinemann operate nine duty free stores and one crew shop at the airport. The airport is currently the busiest in Austria, and served more than 25 million passengers in a calendar year for the first time in 2018 as traffic grew +10.8%.

Further capacity will be added to the airport in the coming years as a result of the Southern Enlargement project for Terminal 3, which is expected to be completed in 2023, and a key element of the renewed partnership will see Heinemann present in this development.

Raoul Spanger says the extension underlines the airport’s confidence in Heinemann

Spanger added: “It has always been our strength to perfectly implement the regional focus of a location in our shops, and we look forward to once again creating this local footprint in Terminal 3 within the context of the southern extension.”
