GERMANY. Gebr Heinemann has started its first concession with Aida Cruises, having won a three-and-a-half year contract onboard the Aidaluna ship following a tender. The operation began on 16 April, after the ship was refurbished.
The Hamburg-based, family-owned company runs 400sq m of space onboard, across three shops. Heinemann has been a partner of Aida Cruises for many years as a distributor and also supplied the Aidaluna. Until now, the retail business had been operated directly by the shipping company and stores on its other ships are still managed in-house.
Gebr Heinemann Director Cruise Liner Ricarda Frentzel-Beyme said: “We are delighted by Aida Cruises’ trust in us and that we were selected by this important tendering process. Thanks to our many years of experience in travel retail in international airports and on cruise ships, we have significant know-how about travellers and their purchasing behaviour.
“This expertise helps us to continually improve and adapt the shopping experience for the cruise passengers. This will contribute towards leading our retail business with Aida Cruises towards greater growth.”
Of the three shops, one provides an extensive selection of fragrances & cosmetics and fashion accessories including jewellery. Another shop offers fashion, bags and shoes while in the third, liquor, tobacco and confectionery are available alongside toys and Aida logoed goods.
The newly renovated shops feature a beach house look, with wood and plant designs and motifs prominent.
“On Aidaluna, we specifically aligned our wide range of products to the various needs of the passengers, with plenty of variety, so that we can offer every guest on board an interesting brand portfolio during their dream holiday. The core range is therefore also extended with seasonal offers or by fashion brands such as the current Benefit and Kerbholz,” explained Frentzel-Beyme.
