Gebr Heinemann and local partner Greenway win exclusive duty free contract at Domodedovo Airport’s new terminal

RUSSIA. Travel Retail Domodedovo (TRD) – a joint venture between Gebr Heinemann and local company Greenway – has been awarded an exclusive seven-year duty free concession at Moscow Domodedovo Airport’s new international terminal.

Domodedovo is the Russian capital’s second-largest airport. The award follows an open tender. Travel Retail Domodedovo already runs two duty free stores and three duty paid shops at Domodedovo Airport.

The new terminal will handle all international flights (making Travel Retail Domodedovo the airport’s sole duty free retailer), while domestic traffic will be concentrated in the existing terminal.

Domodedovo Airport is Moscow’s second-busiest airport and attracts very high average duty free spends

The opening of the approximate 7,000sq m area is scheduled for June 2018. The duty free area will comprise a large main area of around 4,000sq m in the form of a walk-through shop directly beyond security. This will be complemented by two large zones for various fashion and accessories boutiques.

“Over the years, TRD has established itself as a reliable and competent duty free operator,” said Gebr Heinemann Director Sales Russia/CIS Oleg Zhytomyrsky. “We will continue to expand this competence in the coming years and present a comprehensive and varied range of duty free products to passengers at Domodedovo Airport. We are delighted at winning this tender, which is a great confirmation of our entrepreneurial commitment in Russia.”

Travel Retail Domodedovo was founded in 2007.  The joint venture opened its first store at Domodedovo in 2009, a small 18sq m business. Today, it has a team of nearly 300 employees, operating at five Russian airports (Moscow Domodedovo, Moscow Ostafyevo, Ekaterinburg Koltsovo, Samara Kurumoch, and Moscow Zhukovsky).

As the second-largest airport in Russia, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is Travel Retail Domodedovo’s key business location. The business is run by General Manager Sergey Govorushko.
