Fun in the sun: L’Oréal unveils safe ways to play

An airport promotion at Dermacenters in Oslo, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Paris this summer will showcase the range of dermatological sun protection products available from Vichy and La Roche-Posay.

The promotion, entitled ‘Play Safer Under The Sun’, allows passengers to easily grab their sun protection essentials and increase their awareness on the subject of sun exposure via on-hand Dermo Advisors.

The range includes two new sun protection products for children.

La Roche-Posay has launched a children’s version of its innovative MyUV patch. Research presented by the brand shows that sun exposure in childhood is a key risk factor for developing melanoma later in life and that just five sunburns before the age of 20 can increase the risk by +80%. University Hospital of Nice Dermatologist Professor Thierry Passeron explained: “With melanoma figures globally rising, it is imperative that sun-safer behaviour begins early on in life.”

The UV patch is a wearable piece of technology: the heart-shaped patch (measuring a square inch and half the thickness of an average human hair) can be worn anywhere on the body. Electronics inside the patch monitor and measure the amount of UV exposure the skin is getting. The wearer can then access this information by scanning the patch via an app. The app will then give tips on how to stay safe in the sun and remind users when it is time to re-apply sun cream.

An Ipsos survey conducted last year found there was a behavioural change in people who used the patch on holiday with 37% using more facial sunscreen; 36% using more body sun protection; 31% tried to stay in the shade more.
