Freixenet presents the “next generation” of prosecco amid expansion push

Spanish wine producer Freixenet has launched a new prosecco, with one of two versions available as a travel retail exclusive.

Freixenet Prosecco was highlighted, along with an ice rosé, at this month’s TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference in Singapore. A DOCG variant is exclusive to travel retail.

Freixenet Prosecco: Potential to add something different in a saturated market

The company is known for its Cordon Negro sparkling wine in a black bottle. Cordon Rosato, Carta Nevada, Freixenet Ice, Brut vintage and Elyssia Pinot Noir are also included in the Freixenet range, along with a range of sparkling wines.

Freixenet Marketing Director UK & Global Travel Retail Liza Madrigal said: “What people don’t know is that Freixenet is more than Cava and Spanish wines. We want to become the number one choice of sparkling wine for consumers, whilst continuing to add value to the category.”

Freixenet said its prosecco was developed when the company recognised the potential in the “highly saturated” prosecco market.

Freixenet Ice Rosé was also highlighted at this month’s TFWA Asia Pacific Exhibition & Conference

“There is a clear need for a high-quality branded product that would appeal to both existing drinkers and attract a new generation of millennial drinkers,” the company stated.

Freixenet described prosecco as a “viable alternative to Champagne” and noted its broad appeal across various consumer groups. The company said prosecco has driven substantial global growth in the sparkling wine category, with volumes increasing +44% over the past five years.

“During this time, prosecco volumes have tripled, while Cava and Champagne have remained steady,” Freixenet said.

Freixenet Prosecco is produced using Italian grapes. Its cut-glass bottle was designed to emphasise its quality and to increase in-store stand-out.

“Freixenet Prosecco is not just another prosecco,” Madrigal said.

“It’s a high quality product, endorsed by the expertise of Freixenet and it’s the result of a concept that was extensively researched, from the packaging to the liquid, in our aim to bring incremental value to the sparkling wine category.”

Freixenet said the popularity of its Freixenet Ice range led to the development of its new Ice Rosé.
