Frankfurt Airport posts record first-half passenger traffic

GERMANY. Frankfurt Airport handled 29.9 million passengers in the first six months of 2017, a rise of +4.5% year-on-year and a new record for the period.

The German hub also posted an all-time high in June, with 5.8 million passengers, up +5.3% on June 2016. The growth was aided by the early start of the summer school holidays in some parts of Germany this year. Frankfurt Airport passenger traffic has risen for eight consecutive months.

Frankfurt Airport’s robust H1 traffic performance in detail

Fraport’s international portfolio of airports showed solid growth in the first half. Ljubljana Airport welcomed 722,943 passengers in the first six months, a +20.8% jump compared to the same period in the previous year. Lima Airport posted an +8.4% traffic increase to almost 9.7 million passengers.

The Fraport Twin Star airports of Varna and Burgas on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast also experienced strong growth. Combined, they served almost 1.3 million passengers, a gain of +9.4 year-on-year.

The 14 Greek airports managed by Fraport achieved combined traffic growth of +11.9% or a total of 9.6 million passengers in the period. During June, the busiest of the Greek airports included Rhodes Airport with 795,470 passengers (up +9.5%), Thessaloniki Airport with 653,227 passengers (up +20.5%) and Kerkyra Airport in Corfu with 477,099 passengers (up +8.0%).

Antalya Airport served nearly 9.5 million people in the first half of 2017, a sharp gain of +29.4% year-on-year. In northern Germany, Hanover Airport handled about 2.6 million passengers in the January-to-June 2017 period, an increase of +4.9%. St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport recorded strong traffic growth of +25.4% to 7.1 million passengers in the half, while Xi’an Airport saw traffic climb by +14.4% to 20.1 million passengers.
