FLIO scoops international travel industry mobile innovation award

UK. Airport app FLIO has been named Best Mobile Travel Solution at Eyefor Travel’s fifth annual Mobile Innovation in Travel Awards.

FLIO beat finalists Apteligent and RoamingAround to the award, which was accepted by Co-Founder Andy Watson on behalf of the company at a ceremony held in San Francisco.

The awards jury said of the app: “Anybody who makes it to the final is a big deal and FLIO is an amazing product. The Wi-Fi feature alone is very useful to any traveller.”

FLIO CEO and Co-Founder Stephan Uhrenbacher said to be recognised within the online travel industry was a “great moment” for the company. “We have already been called a game-changing app and this win vindicates our belief that with FLIO we are genuinely changing the way in which airports can serve the needs of the traveller,” he commented.

“With FLIO we support their journey through the airport, with access to free Wi-Fi and deals on food and shopping and services like lounge access and train tickets.”

Eyefor Travel was founded in 1997 and produces conferences, reports, webinars and news for senior executives of the online travel industry. Its awards were created to honour innovative solutions in the travel industry.

FLIO recently announced it had passed the 100,000 downloads mark, following the launch of an Android version in January. It has also entered into a partnership with Plaza Premium Lounges to allow users of the app to find, book and pay for lounge access across 24 international airports.
