First spring bloom: Guerlain unveils Cherry Blossom expression

Guerlain’s Cherry Blossom Millésime 2023 is a fresh and floral fragrance centred ‘Sakura’ or Japanese cherry blossoms

LVMH-owned beauty and fragrance house Guerlain is ushering in the spring season with the launch of Cherry Blossom Millésime.

It is now available in Qatar and Dubai travel retail and will roll out in China travel retail from July 2023.

The launch of the limited edition Cherry Blossom fragrance celebrates the 170th anniversary of its signature Bee Bottle.

This new pink-hued fragrance is an ode to the old-age Japanese tradition of ‘Hanami’, which translates to flower viewing in Japanese. This term refers to when friends and families get together to admire the sakura blooming in spring.

This new Cherry Blossom scent has a fruity and floral olfactory signature. Top notes include bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit and green tea, with heart notes of sakura blossom, almond, cherry, jasmine and powdery lilac. It closes with white musk base notes.

Celebrating the 170th anniversary of its signature Bee Bottle, Guerlain has collaborated with the famed Parisian embroidery house, Ateliers Vermont to design the Bee Bottle, offering “the most poetic of adornments to this springtime scent,” the brand said.

The bottle features a three-dimensional floral embroidery resembling a cherry tree branch in blossom.  The cherry tree branch is embroidered on a thin gauze with a slender golden thread. Then, one by one, the golden pearls and tubes form the body of the branch.

The corollas are made of pink shades of fabric, adorned with pink, transparent and red pearls.

Ateliers Vermont’s Creative Director Jean-Eudes Néton said that the artistic collaboration with Guerlain for this new Cherry Blossoms edition was an opportunity to enrich the multi-sensorial of embroidery.

He said, “We gave the bottle an expression, through all of these materials, fabric flowers, sequins, pearls, tubes, golden thread, to bring it to life. It isn’t just about smell, it has become tactile. Other senses have been aroused.”

Best known for creating intricate embroidery for the most prestigious haute couture houses, Ateliers Vermont was entrusted to design the Bee Bottle for this special edition Cherry Blossom fragrance as Guerlain also marks the 170th anniversary of its Bee Bottle.

He added: “Each creation is an experience between an object and the person who creates it. It is a communion of two elements: of the craft of embroidery and of the bottle of the House of Guerlain, the essence of haute couture perfumery.”

Only 3,000 pieces of the limited-edition have been produced globally. Each 125 ml bottle comes with a 20ml travel spray in a white leather sheath, as well as a funnel to transfer the fragrance.✈
