UK. Travel retail marketing and event agency Appleyard Communications is organising an eight-hour variety show to raise funds for the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service.
The charity was founded in 2007 with the aim of providing a dedicated hospice service for children with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses in the Berkshire region near London.
Appleyard said: “Last year we raised £2,700 (US$3,611). It was a superb event featuring seasoned performers who all gave their time for free, and the support from travel retail businesses including Scorpio Worldwide, Cecil Macdonald, Lagardère Travel Retail, World Duty Free, Brand Harbour and Churchill’s Confectionery has been amazingly generous.
“It’s a great day of entertainment in aid of this very deserving charity and we couldn’t do it without prize donations, performers and everyone who makes an effort an effort to come along, enjoy the music and contribute to the raffle.”
Appleyard added that further donations to support the event’s Super Raffle would be welcomed.
According to the Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service, over 600 children in the Berkshire area suffer from life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. The charity funds the Alexander Care Team offering specialist respite and end-of-life care for children and their families in their own homes.
Its recently-completed hospice is the only one for children in Berkshire. The charity aims to open the hospice to families in need in 2018 and is working to raise funds for equipment and furnishings. Its services are free of charge and the charity relies on the support and generosity of local communities to carry out its vital work.
