Fashion and functionality: Paul & Shark reveals new LQQK Studio range

Paul & Shark has launched a Spring/Summer 2019 collaborative capsule collection with Brooklyn-based LQQK Studio.

LQQK Studio developed from a multifaceted creative collective of artists, designers and musicians. It was known for its print work before launching its own streetwear brand in 2016.

Paul & Shark said the new range combines the brand’s heritage with LQQK Studio’s aim to push forward and innovate. It also underlines Paul & Shark’s intention to target new markets.

Looking for a new generation: LQQK Studio for Paul & Shark launches in New York.

LQQK Studio for Paul & Shark was revealed last month at Procell, the vintage store specialising in ’80s and ‘90s apparel and accessories for men and women, in New York.

The collaboration is the second in Paul & Shark’s three-generation history, following the recently-launched Nick Wooster X Paul & Shark collection.

Key items in the LQQK Studio for Paul & Shark collection are a jacket and dungarees made of Typhoon 20000, Paul & Shark’s proprietary water and windproof fabric, which claims to withstand a 20m column of water and gale force gusts of wind. Other items include graphic tees and sweatshirts, like those typically found in LQQK Studio releases, with a “special Paul & Shark twist”.

From a design point of view, LQQK Studio considered Paul & Shark’s history of imagery and has ‘flipped’ colours and introduced the studio’s expertise in screen printing.

Paul & Shark believes its second collaborative collection will widen its base of shoppers.

Paul & Shark Global Travel Retail Director Catherine Bonelli said: “It’s vital that, as a brand, we ensure our future appeal to a younger audience and this new collaborative collection perfectly reflects this ambition.

“Bringing together today’s fashion with functionality and quality, these pieces are ideal for keeping the Paul & Shark name firmly in the minds of travellers today and tomorrow.”

The new collection is featured on the LQQK Studio website. “We are very excited to be working with Paul & Shark on this collaborative project,” the brand said.

“Paul & Shark is an iconic brand from the golden era of men’s sportswear with an archive of designs that are just as relevant today as they were 25 years ago.

“This collaboration was about channelling that golden era but with modern styles and details. While designing this collection we want to make items that are for a new generation of customers while staying true to the identity of Paul & Shark,” LQQK Studio added.
