Expanded walk-through airport store launched in Bermuda

BERMUDA. A new walk-through duty-free shopping concept has been unveiled at Bermuda’s LF Wade International Airport (BDA) by Bermuda Duty-Free.

The 3,500sq ft (325sq m) store occupies a central position in the US departures lounge and features more open access, a wider inventory and a focus on Bermudian products.

Bermuda Duty-Free – owned and operated by Hamilton-based rum producer Gosling Brothers – held a ribbon-cutting and wine tasting event on Wednesday.

Gosling Managing Director, Charles Gosling, said: “While this is the third iteration of our US Store, the doubling of size and better traffic flow has shown immediate results in improved sales. Our intent is to provide, beyond the usual premium duty free choices, a Bermuda farewell to all with a true selection of luxury Bermuda-made or Bermuda-related product. Skyport has been an excellent partner in this process.”

Bermuda Skyport Corporation handles BDA’s operations, maintenance and commercial functions. Commercial Director Ken Hassard, said: “We’re truly excited about having this magnificent new showcase for Bermudian products and brands in a space that also features established and best-selling international brands.”

Home-grown products include TABS (The Authentic Bermuda Shorts), Lili Bermuda perfumes, Alexandra Mosher jewellery, Tiny the Treefrog books and Gosling’s Black Seal and Gold Seal rums. Additional items include Cuban cigars, premium liquors, wines, perfume and sundries.

Skyport, a special-purpose Bermudian company wholly-owned by Aecon Concessions, is also managing the delivery of a redevelopment project over a 30-year concession term and overseeing the construction of a new terminal. The new building is targeted for completion in 2020.
