TAIWAN. EverRich Duty Free management and staff have lent support to victims of the earthquake that hit the Hualien area of Taiwan’s east coast on 6 February.
Some 6,000 of the company’s staff have donated blood in an initiative called #HotBloodtoHualien, while the retailer has provided NT3 million (US$102,000) in funds to aid disaster relief and help rebuild transport links.
EverRich Duty Free said: “The lack of transportation and engineering resources in Hualien has caused difficulties [for] victims and an urgent need for assistance. In addition, due to the cold weather in winter, [there is a] blood shortage for people hurt in Hualien.
“EverRich has long been concerned about social welfare and has actively participated in emergency relief. This time, it was initiated by employees. Over 6,000 employees from all over Taiwan showed their love called for “#HotBloodtoHualien” to donate blood. Apart from employees, we wish to draw public attention and invite more people to give blood for those in need.”
The company said it aimed not just to help those in the Hualien disaster zone with medical treatment, but also help to establish and maintain a full set of blood banks, to alleviate shortages that occur every winter.
