Events and hotel packages confirmed for Cannes

FRANCE. Tax Free World Association has confirmed the usual packed schedule of events for TFWA World Exhibition 2003, which this year will take place over a weekend for the first time, from Thursday 23 to Monday 27 October.

TFWA has negotiated a special deal for delegates booking a five-night stay at the official show hotels with a discount of -50% on the fifth night (Monday 27 October).

The unusual timing initially caused some uncertainty amongst potential delegates. TFWA said the change was brought about because of the timing of two religious festivals this year that disrupted the calendar for conferences and exhibitions at the venue, the Palais des Festivals et des Congres in Cannes.

The TFWA Management Committee did not accept the alternative dates proposed and serious discussions were held with all partners in Cannes, including the City of Cannes, in order to reach an acceptable solution to the issue. In the end, however, TFWA said it had to accept that the normal concept over a week could not be maintained in 2003.

The Management Committee chose the period over the weekend in October rather than accept a week in September or November or look for an alternative venue. The show will revert to the usual timing the following year (Monday 18 October to Friday 22 October 2004).

The format of this year’s show begins with the usual sporting opportunities to break the ice on Thursday 23 October and opening cocktail at 7.30pm that evening. Le Premium Evening will take place on Sunday 26 October. The conference will be on Friday 24 October and the exhibition itself will be open for four full days from Friday 24 through Monday 27 October (until 6.30 pm).

Further details including conference themes, venues for social and sporting events will be available soon on The Moodie Report.
