EUROPE. Passenger traffic at Europe’s airports was up +7.8% year-on-year in October, trade organisation ACI Europe has reported.
That figure is slightly less than the +8.7% growth rate recorded in September, but ACI Europe said it was “still broadly in line with the dynamic trend of the previous months”.
Non-EU airports saw volumes increase +11.9% during the month. Russian, Ukrainian and Turkish airports continued to make significant gains, along with airports in Israel, Georgia and Iceland.
EU airports maintained a robust pace in passenger traffic growth at +6.8% (compared to +7.5% in September), the organisation reported. “As in previous months, airports in the less mature aviation markets east of the bloc tended to outperform, along with Portugal, Luxembourg, Malta and Cyprus,” it said. Most of these airports achieved double-digit growth.
During October, airports welcoming more than 25 million passengers per year (Group 1); 10-25 million (Group 2); 5-10 million (Group 3); and under 5 million (Group 4) reported average adjustments of +4.9%, +9.2%, +11.2% and +11.0% respectively.
The airports that reported the highest increases were:
Group 1: Moscow Sheremetyevo (+17.7%), Istanbul Atatürk (+9.8%), Amsterdam Schiphol (+7.9%), Moscow Domodedovo (+6.7%) and Oslo (+6.5%)
Group 2: St Petersburg (+28.1%), Warsaw Chopin and Ankara (+23.7%), Antalya (+22.7%), Tel Aviv (+18.8%) and Bucharest Henri Coandă (+16.7%)
Group 3: Rome Ciampino (+112.1%), Naples (+28.7%), Venice (+20.8%), Kiev (+19.0%), Keflavik and Valencia (+18.7%)
Group 4: Grenoble (+2,294.0%), Foggia (+192.9%), Craiova (+143.6%), Nis (+107.0%) and Batumi (+63.7%)
