SOUTH AMERICA. Enrique Urioste, one of the Americas’ most experienced and respected travel retail executives, has been appointed Cluster General Manager for South America (excluding Brazil) by Dufry, effective 1 January.
Urioste will replace Oscar Garcia Pedrosa, who will retire in mid-2020 after giving outstanding service to Dufry and the travel retail industry for many years.
Dufry Central & South America Divisional Chief Executive Officer René Riedi told The Moodie Davitt Report: “Oscar will hand over during the first half of 2020 to Enrique and will then go back to Spain. He deserves his retirement and has done a great job. We are very happy to have got Enrique. He is a very knowledgeable person and knows the markets very well. He will step into the shoes of Oscar very well.”
Urioste has vast experience in travel retail. He was the first Secretary General of South American duty free association ASUTIL, playing a pivotal role in driving its success and influence from then until today. As the CEO of Uruguayan retailer Neutral Duty Free, a role he is now leaving, he remains an ASUTIL board member.
Before joining Neutral in February 2011, he was Airport Division President for Duty Free Americas from October 2007 until January 2011.
Earlier he was President & CEO of Argentinian travel retailer Interbaires (acquired by Dufry in 2011) from 2002 until 2007. From December 1999 until February 2002, he was CEO of Interbaires’ sister company IOSC.
