Edrington to unveil Highland Park and The Macallan innovations at TFWA Asia Pacific

“The level of investment in The Macallan across Asia travel retail highlights a strong commitment to our premiumisation strategy” – Marcelo Colombo

Edrington Asia Travel Retail is set to preview a number of product innovations from The Macallan and Highland Park aimed at strengthening its leadership in the luxury single malt category. These will be previewed at next week’s TFWA Asia Pacific Conference & Exhibition (H36, basement 2).

Visitors to Edrington’s stand will also be given insight into a number of bottlings, scheduled for release throughout 2018, to commemorate the opening of The Macallan’s new distillery and visitor centre in May.

Following the exclusive launch of The Macallan Quest Collection at DFS Singapore Changi, The Macallan will showcase a number of new prestige bottlings at TFWA Asia Pacific.

Edrington Asia Travel Retail Commercial Director Marcelo Colombo commented: “The level of investment in The Macallan across Asia travel retail highlights a strong commitment to our premiumisation strategy – driving value growth over volume.

“As The Macallan Quest Collection rolls out globally in travel retail, following a successful exclusive launch with DFS at Changi Airport, we’re continuing to invest in the brand’s position as the ultimate luxury spirit with a strong calendar of prestige products, many of which we will be showcasing during TFWA APAC.”

The Macallan will also reveal its latest collaboration with master French crystal maker Lalique, with the release of the fourth limited-edition decanter from The Macallan Golden Age of Travel series. This travel shopping-exclusive range re-lives the glamour of the 1930s and celebrates the first era of international travel by road, rail, sea, and air.

The fourth release features an ‘exceptionally’ rare period Macallan, distilled in 1937, first bottled in 1974, and rebottled in 2018. The whisky is showcased in a handcrafted Lalique crystal decanter, of which only 50 have been made, and features an illustration of a classic 1930s motor car.

The Macallan M Decanter is now crafted in black crystal, which is said to be a rare and more challenging form of crystal making. This new 2017 release is crafted from a small number of casks to yield a complex style of The Macallan with hints of peat smoke, reflecting the history of The Macallan through the different eras in which the distillery has operated.

The Macallan 50 Years Old – 2018 Release – is a style revival from a bygone era, crafted from whiskies distilled in 1967. The Macallan 50 years old, bottled at an ABV of 44%, is presented in a solid oak box featuring an etched face inlaid with a matte gold badged age statement. This 2018 release is limited to 200 bottles worldwide.

A new chapter for Highland Park in travel retail

Highland Park is set to build on its strong momentum in travel retail with a new core collection of four whiskies developed exclusively for the channel. The new collection, launching in travel retail from July, will see the reintroduction of age statements as well as new packaging and bottles. Edrington said this will bring Highland Park’s travel retail offer in line with its core domestic range, which was updated last year with a new design.

The new range of whiskies has been created by Master Whisky Maker Gordon Motion to showcase different aspects of Highland Park’s distinctive flavour profile – from bold and smoky to spicy and elegant.

Colombo commented: “We’re excited to provide fresh impetus to the Highland Park brand in travel retail and grow our tribe of Highland Park drinkers with a new range that delivers strong and engaging stories, premium presentation, easier navigation, greater synergies with our domestic range and – first and foremost – fantastic whiskies.”
