Easing of travel restrictions prompts UK flight bookings boom, reports ForwardKeys

UK/INTERNATIONAL. Flight bookings for international trips out of the UK for any future travel increased by an average of +24% in the week to 13 July compared to the previous week, according to new data released by ForwardKeys.

The positive result was driven by the easing of travel restrictions involving certain overseas destinations under the UK’s traffic light system.

The travel data analyst revealed that the highest week-on week increases for international flights booked out of the UK (for any future travel) were for tickets to Germany (+113%), Croatia (+69%), Sweden (+68%), Portugal (+65%) and Albania (+64%).

Across the week ending 13 July, the purchase of flight tickets for future travel from the UK to some traditional holiday destinations have also exceeded pre-pandemic levels, with Greece heading the list, more than doubling (+111%) compared to 2019 levels.

The Bahamas follows, with tickets +61% above 2019 levels. Croatia has also reached pre-pandemic weekly ticketing levels in the week ending 13 July (+7%) while tickets booked for travel to Spain, at 88% of 2019 levels, are fast increasing.

ForwardKeys Insights Analyst Juan Gomez said:  “It’s reassuring to see the UK issued tickets increase for Summer travel, but the question remains – will those figures manage to surpass pre-pandemic levels in those destinations? Only Greece is a safe bet.”
