Duty Free Global forges distribution deal with non-alcoholic spirits specialist Caleño

Through partner DFG, Caleño is offering non-alcoholic alternatives to the travel retail channel

Caleño has struck an agreement with Duty Free Global (DFG) to distribute its non-alcoholic drinks range in global travel retail.

Caleño offers a range of tropical non-alcoholic spirits, including the two expressions that will soon hit duty free shelves – Caleño Light & Zesty gin and Dark & Spicy rum.

The no-alcohol gin is distilled with a zingy mix of ten botanicals, including pineapple, lemon peel and Colombian Inca berry. The zero-alcohol rum is described as bold and offers the tropical flavours of Colombia, with a hint of pineapple, coconut and lime, brought to life with natural spices.

Caleño Founder Ellie Webb travelled across her family’s homeland, Colombia, where she drew inspiration to create her tropical-flavoured non-alcoholic spirits

The company was founded by UK-based Ellie Webb, who was inspired by the flavours of Colombia and aimed to “bring a Latina fiesta to those moments when you’re not drinking.”

Caleño aims to capture a share of the growing market for non-alcoholic beverages across all categories. This market increased by +25% to US$1.2 billion in 2022, according to IWSR Drinks Market Analysis data. By 2024, the No & Low Alcohol Category is projected to grow globally by +31%.

Caleño Founder Ellie Webb said: “Duty Free Global are the leading experts on building brands in global travel across multiple categories. They have a proven track-record and an amazing reputation in the trade. It is brilliant to be partnering with them as their only non-alcoholic brand and I am extremely excited to see where this partnership can go.”

Duty Free Founder Global Barry Geoghegan added: “When we met the team at Caleño we knew immediately from their passion and spirit that it was the right non-alcoholic spirit brand for travel retail – it sums up the spirit of travel and holidays with its joyful packaging and amazing spirits that create delicious tropical cocktails. We think it will appeal to travel retail operators with the growing trend for non-alcoholic alternatives in particular with millennials and Gen Z and it also offers an extra sale on top of the passenger’s duty free allowance.”

*Caleño was represented during a session about positive drinking at the Diageo Global Travel ‘Sunset Sessions’ at TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes last October. At the event, Commercial Director Ollie Palmer said that with no-alcohol brands going mainstream, “the shelves are starting to open up. I’m starting to see it within global travel, which is really exciting.”
