GERMANY. Düsseldorf Airport has issued a tender seeking a partner to manage its five duty free units. The contract, which is currently held by Dufry company World Duty Free, runs for ten years beginning in January 2023.
The stores span 3,300sq m, with four stores airside post-security and one further staff shop in the public area of the airport.
The airport company said it is “looking for a contractor with national and international experience in travel retail, with the goal of providing a shopping experience onsite and advancing the online business. The focus is also on developing omnichannel approaches in order to support passengers on their entire customer journey in the best possible way. The operator should be flexible in terms of products offered and store design to be able to react to changes in demand and trend developments.”
Düsseldorf Airport Senior Vice President Commercial Anja Dauser said: “What we wish for is a long term and innovative collaboration with all of us seeing eye to eye. We expect excellent quality and attractive offers from our future operator, but also motivation on their part for walking down new avenues. A new concept was introduced with the current operator, and we would like to continue on that path with our new partner.”
The airport is set to publish tender documents on the ‘Subreport ELViS’ tenders portal. The process will run in the months ahead, with a bid deadline in the third week in September and a plan to sign a rental agreement with the chosen partner by the end of Q1 2022.
