Dufry inaugurates arrivals duty free store at Amman International amid expansion drive

JORDAN. Dufry and Airport International Group (AIG) inaugurated the retailer’s new arrivals duty free shop at Amman Queen Alia International Airport on 31 January. The 700sq m store offers more than 5,000 items across food, drinks, beauty, accessories and jewellery. It will soon open a 2,520sq m departures duty free store as part of an airport-wide upgrade of its business. These will set a new standard for its regional operations, said the company.

The design of the arrivals store incorporates large format digital screens to allow a more “engaging and immersive experience,” according to Dufry. The Design Solution partnered with Dufry on the project, as reported.

“Work on our departures store is now well underway and we will be introducing our New Generation Store concept to deliver a world-class airport shopping experience to our customers. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners at Airport International Group for their support and for working in such close partnership with us on this redevelopment.”

AIG CEO Kjeld Binger said: “We are glad to partner with Dufry to expand our duty free area at Queen Alia International Airport. Such collaborations emphasise our commitment to catering to the varied needs of passengers flying through the airport and providing them with an enjoyable travel experience.”

AIG Chief Commercial Officer Deema Anani added: “One of our main objectives at Airport International Group is to deliver quality services across the board, including our duty free areas. As reported, the investment comes against the backdrop of a wider upgrade of commercial services at Amman Airport. AIG released a tender in Q4 2018 for its major F&B concession through The Moodie Davitt Report.
