Dufry extends airport contracts in Brasília and Natal for ten years to 2033

Julían Díaz: This confirms Brazil’s position as one of Dufry’s most important operations in Latin America

BRAZIL. Dufry has extended its duty free and duty paid contracts with Inframerica Group at Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport in Brasília and São Gonçalo do Amarante International Airport in Natal for ten years until 2033.

Based on the new contracts, Dufry will operate close to 2,200 sqm of duty free and 5,300 sqm of duty paid space (more than double) at the airports.

Dufry will double the space of its of walk-through travel retail shop in the arrivals area at Brasília from 580sq m to 1,180sq m. Arrivals is the airport’s key location in terms of spend per transaction and passenger conversion, Dufry noted.

The retailer will enhance its core portfolio of products, which includes perfumes and cosmetics, wine and spirits, confectionery, fashion and accessories, by adding more brands and a wider product mix.

Dufry will also inaugurate two last-minute shops in departures, embracing 58sq m of retail space.

Dufry CEO Julían Díaz commented: “We are proud to further extend the successful partnership with Inframerica, which we started in 2013.

“This will allow us to even further develop the operations and to seize new opportunities. With these additional spaces, Dufry fosters its presence in the Brazilian travel retail market, as well as in some of the most important Brazilian airports, thus confirming the country’s position as one of the most important operations in Latin America.

“I thank Inframerica for the renewal of this successful partnership their trust in Dufry; we are thrilled to continue working together and bringing to our customers a unique shopping experience at these airports.”

The duty free and duty paid stores at São Gonçalo do Amarante International Airport in Natal will also be expanded and improved.

A UNIQUE CONCEPT WORLDWIDE

The first pilot for the Dufry Shopping Megastore concept was introduced at Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport in Brasília in 2014. Then, Dufry inaugurated a 1,600sq m general walk-through travel retail shop to serve domestic passengers, with a similar shopping environment and product offer for duty free.

“This is a unique concept worldwide, with great potential,” said Dufry, noting that in Brazil domestic passengers account for around 90% of traffic.

With the contract extension, Dufry will add almost 2,000sq m of new space within new and existing concepts and further improve the consumer experience, it pledged. Several kiosks will be opened, offering the best-selling duty paid, such as perfumes and cosmetics, confectionery, toys, and fashion and accessories.
