Dufry awarded Helsinki Airport luxury retail contract

FINLAND. Finavia has awarded the luxury retail contract at Helsinki Airport to Dufry’s World Duty Free Group Helsinki.

Dufry was selected for the operation of 13 stores across 1,021sq m after what the airport operator said was the most competitive bidding process it has run to date. Of the 13 retail spaces, 12 will be located in the new terminal covering long-haul, and non-Schengen traffic at the Finnish airport, while one of the spaces will be in the terminal that currently serves European and domestic flights. The move will add 700sq m of new space for the retailer, taking its total to 4,000sq m at the airport.

Fred Creighton: “This is an exciting time for the airport”

In 2019, Dufry will add Timebox and Urban Attitude, as well as shops selling sunglasses, watches and jewellery. Retail outlets for Bvlgari, Jimmy Choo, Chloe, Coach and Longchamp will be added by Dufry in 2020 and 2021.

Dufry’s Divisional CEO Europe, Africa and Strategy Eugenio Andrades said: “We are delighted to have secured this new contract and would like to thank our partners at Finavia for their support and the trust they have shown in us. Ours is a very collaborative and long-term relationship and we look forward to working with the airport team to create welcoming and impactful retail spaces for the over 20 million passengers that will pass through the airport each year. This is an exciting time of transformation for Helsinki airport and we are proud to be part of it.”

Dufry Divisional CEO for UK & Central Europe Fred Creighton said: “We’re delighted to have been awarded this contract to operate premium shopping outlets at Helsinki airport. This is an exciting time for the airport as it enters this phase of transformation and we are proud to be part of what is the largest construction and redevelopment project in its history. We look forward to playing our part by adding new features to the world-class shopping experience which will be enjoyed by the millions of passengers who use the airport each year.”

Helsinki Airport Director for Commercial Services Nora Immonen added: “We have conducted the procurement process very thoroughly. We were able to secure exactly the kind of concepts and brands that will suit our various customer groups and support the overall development of the airport.”

Finavia also announced SSP Finland as the operator of four new F&B outlets at the airport. SSP will open Champagne bar Helcin; the tearoom Oh My, it’s tea time, which will offer a high-quality tea selection; Café Koivikko, a Finnish café concept with a very Finnish concept; and a juice bar called Helsinki Smoothery.

The airport is currently undergoing a €1 billion redevelopment

SSP Finland Managing Director Pia Jormanainen commented: “We’re delighted to have won this latest tender and are looking forward to working with Finavia to expand and strengthen our existing F&B operations at Helsinki Airport. These latest openings have been designed to meet the needs of all passengers travelling through Finland’s largest airport – whether they are celebrating the start of their holidays with a glass of champagne or looking to refuel with a healthy and nutritious meal before their next flight.”

Immonen added: “We are very happy with the operators that were selected. The customer experience and its enhancement are at the heart of all our operations and development efforts, and thanks to the new shops, brands, restaurants and cafés, we can offer an even wider selection of services to both our Finnish and our international passengers.”

Finavia is currently in the midst of a €1 billion redevelopment of Helsinki Airport. “As our airport continues to develop, we will make the shopping and restaurant world even more versatile for our customers with more diversity where and what to eat and more local specialities to shop,” Immonen said.
