Dubai International traffic growth softens in September on Eid timing

“Dubai International’s growth throughout the first nine months has been very satisfying and we are well set for a great finish to the year.”
Paul Griffiths, CEO, Dubai Airports

UAE. Dubai International passenger traffic hit 7.2 million in September, a rise of +1.7% year-on-year. The softening of traffic growth compared to recent months was attributed to the splitting of the seasonal rush of travellers during the Eid holidays, which began in August and ended in September, said Dubai Airports. In the first nine months, traffic continued its strong upward trend to reach 66,568,550 passengers, a rise of +5.8% year-on-year.

South America was the fastest growing region in September with a +46.2% increase, followed by Eastern Europe (+18.6%), and East Asia (+15.7%). India remained the top destination country in terms of passenger numbers with 931,193, followed by the UK (548,762) and Saudi Arabia (536,187).

London was the top destination city with 346,018 passengers followed by Kuwait (213,713) and Mumbai (182,597).

The average number of passengers per flight during the first nine months remained high at 224, up +6.8% compared to 210 during the same period last year.

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said: “Dubai International’s growth throughout the first nine months of 2017 has been very satisfying and we are now well set for a great finish to the year, thanks to the internationally popular entertainment and sports events lined up for the upcoming winter season here in Dubai.”
