Dubai Duty Free wins recognition for marketing to Chinese tourists

CHINA/UAE. Dubai Duty Free has been presented with a new award by the China Outbound Tourism Research Institute (COTRI).

The travel retailer received a Chinese Tourist Welcome Awards (Silver) in the Marketing category during the ITB China Tourism Conference. The event was held at the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Staged since 2004, the COTRI-organised awards this year recognised thirty companies and organisations from almost twenty different countries. The awards were given in five categories: Innovation, Marketing, Service Quality, Internet/Media and Overall Performance.

COTRI Founder and Director Professor Dr. Wolfgang Georg Arlt said: “It is encouraging to see that more and more tourism service providers on all continents are showing a deeper understanding of the specific needs and wants of the different kind of Chinese travellers.

“However, there is still more work to do as the expectations of Chinese are growing with the level of experience.”

Of his companys award, Dubai Duty Free Executive Vice Chairman & CEO Colm McLoughlin said: “We are delighted to receive the Silver Chinese Tourist Welcome Award for our strategic marketing initiatives with the Chinese market for the first time, and for being selected as one of C-Trip’s most outstanding partners outside China.”

COTRI is an independent research institute for information, training, quality assessment, research and consulting relating to the Chinese outbound tourism market.

The organisation is a privately-run, independent institute headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. It has a Chinese office located in Beijing.
