Dubai Duty Free and UnionPay International host campaign for Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival

UAE. Dubai Duty Free is marking the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival with a promotion in cooperation with UnionPay International. The campaign runs from 23 September to 7 October. It offers customers a chance to win Dubai Duty Free gift cards worth up to AED150 for every spend worth AED888 or more with UnionPay cards at Dubai Duty Free.

Targeting a key consumer: One of Dubai Duty Free’s Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival themed areas in Concourse A.

In addition, some beauty brands favoured by Chinese including Lancôme, Shiseido, L’Occitane, Estée Lauder, SKII and Guerlain are offering -10% to -30% discounts on selected items. There is also a -10% discount on selected Tissot and Rado watches as well as a ‘Buy one get one’ and gift with purchase in other categories including liquor, tobacco and confectionery.

Engaging the customers: Chinese travellers receive moon cakes from Dubai Duty Free staff.

Dubai Duty Free said its partnership with UnionPay had been effective in reaching Chinese travellers, and had generated US$86.32 million sales (4.7% of the total) in 2017 and US$81.22 million so far this year (to the end of August).

Chinese passengers now account for 4% of traffic at Dubai International but around 17% of spend at Dubai Duty Free. The most popular product categories are watches, precious jewellery, skincare and cosmetics.

As part of the festival campaign, traditional Chinese blooming flower imagery, Chinese Goddess of Moon displays and decorative hanging lanterns adorn the themed areas. Some of Dubai Duty Free’s 798 Chinese staff gave away 5,000 moon cakes to departing Chinese passengers on 23 September.
