Drones in travel retail airspace as Lotte Duty Free and Lancôme light up the night sky

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free and Lancôme celebrated the retailer’s 40th anniversary year and the Lunar New Year in spectacular style on Saturday night with a surprise drone and light show.

The dazzling drone event – a first for the travel retail industry – lasted around five minutes from 6.30p.m. It featured illuminated white mice to symbolise Gyeongjanyeon (‘Gyeong’ meaning white, and ‘ja’ meaning mouse) or ‘The Year of the White Mouse’.

The event came in the run-up to Seollal (Lunar New Year’s Day) on 25 January, one of Korea’s most celebrated national holidays.

To coincide with the drone show, projection mapping was used to light up Lotte World Tower with the anniversary logo of Lotte Duty Free (designed by UK pop artist Stephen Wilson) and Lancôme’s rose symbol.

The event was graced by Lotte Duty Free CEO Lee Kap; Lotte Duty Free Head of Merchandising Seung-Kook Lee; L’Oréal Travel Asia Pacific Executive Business Director Iris Lam; Lancôme General Manager Tao Zhang; and famed Korean actress and singer Bae Su-ji (Suzy).

As reported, Lotte Duty Free plans a year-long celebration of its auspicious 40th anniversary landmark. To honour the occasion it will unveil a flurry of exclusive products and brand promotions throughout 2020.
