DFS prepares to exit Changi with a final flourish

SINGAPORE. DFS Group is exiting its liquor and tobacco contract at Changi Airport with a final promotion on iShopChangiWines.com.

From now until 8 June when an historic 35-year incumbency draws to an end, customers can enjoy up to -70% off on the retailer’s 200 tax and duty-absorbed offerings.

From 16 May to 22 May, DFS Group will be releasing daily flash deals at 9pm Singapore Standard Time. The deals will include DFS’s prestige collection and will run on a first-come first-served basis until stocks last. During this time, complimentary delivery will also be available for a minimum spend of S$150 (US$105)

The Prestige collection highlights include (top left to bottom right): Brora 40 year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky; Luce Luxury 6 Bottles Set; Kweichow Moutai Zodiac Set; Albert Bichot Grand Cru White Magnums Set of 3

From now until the end of May, customers can also shop newly added beer brands on iShopChangiWines.com. These include Carlsberg, Somersby, Suntory and Tiger, as well as a selection of craft beers.

To mark its final lap in Changi Airport, DFS Group will be releasing a video showcasing wonderful memories of the last 35 years. At the end of the month, the DFS Changi team will reveal another video to bid a final farewell to its customers.

A walk down memory lane: The Singapore Memory Project encourages customers to contribute to the group’s online memory collection

As reported, long-term incumbent DFS decided not to contest the liquor and tobacco tender in 2019, due to grave concerns over the financial sustainability of the contract model. The concession was eventually awarded to Lotte Duty Free. The DFS concession expires on 8 June.

DFS Group Managing Director South Asia Aymeric Lacroix said, “As one of DFS Group’s most esteemed allies for the last 35 years, we thank Changi Airport Group for their ongoing support and partnership. We will continue to serve our customers with the same passion for excellence that has distinguished us at Changi Airport until our official exit in June 2020.”

As reported, DFS launched an online contest in collaboration with Singapore Memory Project, encouraging customers to contribute to the group’s online memory collection. The contest will run until 8 June, with winners to be announced via the DFS Changi Facebook page.

DFS Group also launched a project called ‘DFS Changi & Hawkers United – Dabao 2020.’ Hawkers United is a programme which offers a virtual community for local hawkers, F&B outlets, and local essential food services.

Street food lovers unite: For every purchase of S$250 on iShopChangiWines.com between 1 to 7 May, customers received a S$5 voucher to be used at Hawker’s United

From 1 to 7 May, DFS offered S$5 #savefnbsg (Save Food and Beverage Singapore) vouchers for a minimum spend of S$250 (£175) on iShopChangiWines.com. The vouchers can be redeemed until the end of May. It also released a video to rally support for the local food hawkers, which has already garnered over 25,000 views.

As reported, the retailer also launched a series of star-studded live-stream performances — by several notable Singaporean artists — to entertain audiences while in self-isolation.

DFS Group will continue to serve customers in Changi Airport in its ‘Fashion Avenue’ store in Terminal 3 and in various boutiques across Terminals 1 to 4, as well as in the Harbourfront Cruise Centre, Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and T Galleria by DFS.
