South Korea

The Korea Herald reports that the number of new daily coronavirus cases bounced back above 40 on Thursday as domestic infections rose. The 43 cases marked the first time since 29 July that the daily tally has topped 40. Of the newly identified cases, 23 were domestic infections, the highest level since 25 July.

International

  • Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte reimposes tightened coronavirus restrictions on Manila as situation deteriorates.

  • The Philippines posts its highest single-day spike on Saturday.

  • Travellers arriving in the UK from Spain must now quarantine for 14 days under new coronavirus travel rules introduced yesterday. The change, a major blow to both UK and Spanish tourism, follows a spike in COVID-19 cases in Spain, with over 900 new infections reported Friday. The UK’s biggest tour operator, Tui, cancelled its flights due to depart to the Spanish mainland and the Canary Islands today.
  • Total cases in the US near 4.2 million, over a quarter of global infections.
  • Brazil reports over 50,000 new cases for the fourth consecutive day
