The collaboration began in Heinemann’s tax-free shop at Copenhagen Airport. A dedicated promotional area featured an authentic Copper Dog bar. Travellers could sample the single malt, while copper whisky dippers were given away with every purchase.

“We are pleased to be the first partner to launch Copper Dog whisky in travel retail,” said Gebr. Heinemann Director Purchasing Liquor, Tobacco, Confectionery & Fine Food Rüdiger Stelkens. “We always strive to be first to offer our customers superior shopping experiences and premium, travel retail exclusive products”

Copper Dog is the brainchild of London nightclub, bar and restaurant entrepreneur Piers Adam

Copper Dog creator Piers Adam commented: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Heinemann to launch Copper Dog. They are such a reputable family run business with a globally renowned reputation and we feel incredibly proud to have them by our side.”

Copper Dog originates from the “ingenious method by which distillery workers used to filch a dram or three of whisky to take home”, according to the whisky maker. Workers would solder a penny to one end of a small copper tube and fit a cork in the other, smuggling the whisky out in their clothing.

The whisky is created in the heart of Speyside, an area responsible for 70% of all Scotch. Copper Dog blends eight Speyside single malts for six months “to create an authentic Scotch full of flavour and life”. Copper Dog is sponsoring the #AiroftheDog Great Airport Cocktail Award at this year’s Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Awards, hosted by Toronto Pearson International Airport. The event is taking place this week (21-23 June). Four shortlisted candidates will take part in a #AiroftheDog ‘shake-off’ in Toronto.
