Copenhagen Airport extends dining range with wine and tapas bar

DENMARK. A new Spanish tapas and wine bar has opened at Copenhagen Airport’s Terminal 3.

Paté Paté Winebar & Tapas was launched by wine enthusiast Kenn Husted, owner of a number of popular wine bars in Copenhagen and one of the ten largest restaurateurs in the city.

The outlet offers Spanish cuisine using Nordic ingredients, in an atmosphere that is claimed to be “informally Danish”. It adds to the airport’s 34 food & beverage options.

The kitchen features two chefs: Javier Pascual Álvarez, who has worked at Spanish Michelin-starred restaurants elBulli and Arzak, and Domenico Cannone, previously of Copenhagen’s Era Ora.

Paté Paté was originally opened in Kødbyen, Copenhagen’s old Meat Packing District, in 2009. The new restaurant takes the same approach to quality, cosiness and presence, Copenhagen Airport said.

Quality and affordability: Wines from France, Spain and Austria are available at the outlet

“Copenhagen’s gastronomy has contributed strongly to putting Denmark on the world map, and naturally this must be reflected at the airport,” said Copenhagen Airport’s Director of Airport Sales Lise Ryevad.

“We want to give travellers a taste of Copenhagen that will appeal to an international audience. Paté Paté Winebar & Tapas fits the bill with a simple and attractive new concept, tailored for the airport and designed to meet travellers’ needs for quick and tasty quality food before take-off.

“We know that more than 60% of our customers attach importance to food when travelling. They want a wide selection, high quality at good prices, and above all they appreciate an overall experience that lets them get to the gate without stress. Paté Paté Winebar & Tapas takes an informal approach to good wine and offers tasty and quick food en route. Travellers with little time to spare can even order food to go.”

The menu includes freshly made pintxos and montaditos at prices from DKK25 (US$3.70) each. Hand-picked wines from France, Spain and Austria start at DKK68 (US$10.00) per glass.

‘Little brother’: The airport concept has been tailored to the needs of travellers

Kenn Husted said: “As an active traveller I have visited many airports over the years, but never found one that could fully satisfy my need for food and beverages. For me it should be quick and easy, and the focus should be on high quality in pleasant surroundings. Paté Paté Winebar & Tapas offers cosiness and presence. We have a strong team and a good and large selection of food and quality wines, most of which we have hand-picked ourselves and imported directly from producers around the world.”

Copenhagen Airport received the ‘Airport Food & Beverage Offer of the Year’ accolade at the Airport Food & Beverage (FAB) Awards in Geneva earlier this year.
