CNSC set to gain Dalian Airport arrivals duty free concession

cnscCHINA. Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport is set to award its duty free arrivals concession to China National Service Corporation for Chinese Personnel Working Abroad (CNSC).

The agreement, which is still subject to contract, will run for five years with a projected start-up by the end of August.

CNSC’s planned 295sq m store will sell liquor & tobacco, perfumes & cosmetics and miscellaneous products, Deputy Manager, Duty-Free Business Department for Inbound Chinese Jacky Yan told The Moodie Davitt Report.

Dalian is a major city in Northeast China and acts as a financial, shipping and logistics hub for NorthEast Asia. The airport is the busiest in Northeast China and the country’s 16th-busiest, according to Wikipedia.

The Dalian concession is CNSC’s second successful bid for an arrivals shop in quick succession. As reported, CNSC  was awarded the duty free arrivals shop contract at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport – the state-owned company’s first airport retail contract.

The Dalian award follows the landmark news in February 2016, first revealed by The Moodie Davitt Report and its close Chinese associate Duty Free Expert, that central government had authorised bids for licences at 19 nominated inbound locations, including airports and seaports (see list below; note: the international airports in Beijing and Shanghai already offer Arrivals duty free).

All contract awards are expected by the end of April. We’ll bring you news on other contract awards soon.

The company is also bidding on the duty free tenders at Beijing Capital International Airport T2 and T3, where the deadline has now been extended to 12 April from the original cut-off of today, 6 April. The incumbent retailer is Sunrise Duty Free, while Chinese travel retail giant China Duty Free Group is also bidding. Other bidders are expected to include Zhuhai Duty Free, Shenzhen Duty Free and CTS
