JAPAN. Central Japan International Airport Co (Centrair) today opened a 90sq m duty free store dedicated to Japanese liquor (as we initially reported in November). It is located close to Gate 20 in airside departures.
Centrair said it is the first airport shop solely dedicated to Japanese speciality liquor products in the country.
The shop, under the name Sorano Sakagura, offers 200 brands of sake, shochu and other drinks that represent Japan. Of particular interest, said the airport company, will be limited editions jointly developed with regional breweries from the Aichi, Gifu and Mie Prefectures. These will be sold under the Sorano Sakagura name and limited to 1,000 bottles of each.
The airport company said: “The needs of the international tourist are rapidly increasing and, as a gateway to Japan, Centrair aims to become a place where international visitors can experience Japanese culture, its traditions, its gastronomy and, of course, its liquors.
Sorano Sakagura will offer a selection of Japanese liquors from the Central Japan region and other parts of the country, as well as Centrair limited edition sake that will only be available in the store, bringing this part of the Japanese experience closer for the international visitors.”
