CheongKwanJang focuses on family health with exclusive + Series

CheongKwanJang (Korean Ginseng Corp) will introduce a travel retail exclusive + Series, which targets family health issues, at this year’s TFWA World Exhibition (Red Village M24).

The + Series offers six packs of tablets and capsules that combine various ingredients with extract from red ginseng which is harvested after growing for at least six years.

CheongKwanJang Ginseng+ and Energy+ are recommended for all consumers. Ginseng+ contains active components of red ginseng extract and claims to enhance the immune system. The 300mg pack contains 60 tablets, with a recommended daily dosage of two tablets.

Energy+ (500mg) includes milk thistle and hovenia dulcis (more commonly known as the Japanese raisin tree) to battle fatigue.

The 350mg Power+ is recommended for men as a vigour booster and features maca and octacosanol while, for women, the 350g Beauty+ focuses on health and beauty through combining ginseng with collagen and hyaluronic acid.

Focus+ (720mg) is for students, to assist memory function and enhance mental performance and contains omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, while the 1200mg Kid+ is said to help growth, immunity and intestinal activities. It contains Korean red ginseng, lactobacillus and calcium.

Korean Red Ginseng with Pomegrante Royal targets gifting with its boxed, easy-to-use pouches

As reported, CheongKwanJang highlighted Korean Red Ginseng with Pomegrante Royal and and water-soluble Korean Red Ginseng Extract Everytime Royal at TFWA Asia Pacific earlier this year. Both products target gifting and are exclusive to travel retail until the end of December.

CheongKwanJang New Business Leading Team Manager Sang Min Oh underlined the company’s growing interest in health and wellness in travel retail and its determination to establish itself as a core brand.

He said the company has identified the need for categories in travel retail which “inspire customers”.

The Everytime Royal line is exclusive to travel retail until the end of December

“As duty free stores around the world competitively engage in global integration, they have come to handle similar categories and brands, which are decreasing their individual characteristics.

“This is causing consumers to lose interest in duty free shopping, and in turn duty free stores are required to provide massive discounts to stimulate the interest of purchasing customers,” Oh said.

Over the past three years Korean Ginseng has achieved an annual average sales growth of +15.3%, with US$353 million in duty free sales in 2018, the company added. CheongKwanJang claimed a 2% market share of Korean travel retail in 2018 and has recorded a compound annual growth rate of +18% over the past nine years.

Looking to make its mark: CheongKwanJang has an eye-catching stand ready for its TFWA World Exhibition debut

It operates 26 stores, boutiques and shop-in-shops in South Korea. A boutique opening at Incheon International Airport Terminal 2 last year was followed by new spaces in airport stores in Kansai (Japan), Jakarta (Indonesia), Na Dang and Nha Trang (Vietnam) with Lotte Duty Free. The brand works with several leading travel retailers including Dufy, Lotte Duty Free and DFS.

As reported, Korean Red Ginseng products are also featured with The Shilla Duty Free at Gimpo International Airport.

“Duty free is the central sales channel that has made CheongKwanJang into a global brand,” Oh said. “Along with the professionalism associated with a 120-year-old health company, and recognition as the world’s number-one ginseng brand recognition, we hope to provide a healthy alternative to travellers looking for new types of gifts,” he concluded.

According to the Healthline.com website, ginseng has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries.
This slow-growing, short plant with fleshy roots can be classified three ways, depending on how long it is grown: fresh, white or red. Fresh ginseng is harvested before four years, while white ginseng is harvested between four to six years and red ginseng is harvested after six or more years.

The site lists seven ‘evidence-based’ health benefits of ginseng which include its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, its ability to improve brain functions such as memory, behaviour and mood and to boost energy levels. It is also believed to help insulin production and, possibly, reduce the risk of certain cancers.
