‘Centre of Excellence’: Travel retail technology company Datalex expands its UK footprint

UK/IRELAND. Technology business Datalex plans to double its UK workforce over the next two years to serve the growing digital demands of its airline and travel industry customers.

The Dublin-based organisation, which has offices in China, Europe, Latin America and the US, is establishing ‘a centre of excellence’ in Manchester to increase its research and development. The business currently employs 30 people in the city and has moved to new central premises at 55 Spring Gardens.

Staff at the new hub will develop key skills in software delivery specifically for travel retailers, as well as hone their knowledge of Java and Java-related web technologies, application support and automation testing.

Datalex provides a range of digital services for companies such as Lufthansa Group, JetBlue Airways and Air China. It has also established a digital product and pricing system for Swiss International Airlines, as part of the carrier’s omnichannel strategy.

For Philippine Airlines, the tech supplier designed an order management application which allows the carrier’s corporate members to shop and book directly with the airline and eliminate agency fees.

Datalex subscribes to the International Air Transport Association’s ONE Order concept, which aims to use new technological capability to replace the industry’s existing multiple and rigid booking, ticketing, delivery and accounting methods.

The Manchester office extension comes after Datalex last year announced the creation of 200 jobs across its global network of offices.

“We are experiencing significant global demand for our digital commerce platform,” said Datalex CEO Aidan Brogan.

“Manchester is the UK’s second city and we are both delighted and excited to be setting up a Datalex centre of excellence in its heart. We believe that Manchester strategically gives us a wide breadth of talent, not just from the city, but also from the wider region.”
