USA. HMSHost Foundation hosted its first annual Chef’s Table event at Dock 5, Union Market in Washington, D.C. this week.
Starbucks Coffee Company and Baker Hostetler were presenting sponsors at the fundraiser in support of the foundation’s fight against poverty.
The event featured 15 renowned celebrity chefs from across North America, in a combination of live-kitchen entertainment and fine dining. The chefs prepared signature gourmet meals tableside while guests enjoyed a live musical performance by Tony Award-nominated performer, Denée Benton.
HMSHost Foundation President Paul Mamalian said: “With over 40 million Americans living in poverty, now is the time to act.
“HMSHost Foundation is committed to putting an end to poverty and raising awareness about the issue of poverty through events such as this. We are indebted to our sponsors and chef participants for using their voices and resources to help us in this important fight.”
HMSHost President & CEO Steve Johnson added: “We are extremely proud to host this inaugural event right in our backyard, bringing so many business and culinary leaders into one room to support our fight against poverty. We thank the chefs and donors, especially our presenting sponsors for making this event a success.”
Participating chefs included individuals recognised by the James Beard Foundation, the Michelin Guide and Bravo TV’s Top Chef. A biography of each chef is available is available here.
HMSHost Foundation says its mission is to fight poverty with food, shelter, education, and workforce development. The HMSHost charitable offshoot recently made a US$20,000 grant to Los Angeles-based non-profit organisation Peace4Kids and celebrated its second anniversary by holding its annual Invitational Golf Classic, raising over US$200,000 for charities.
It also recently raised US$30,000 for local organisations in the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina at a charity golf tournament at the Grandover Gold Resort.
