GUAM. Leading travel retailer DFS Group has celebrated Guam’s history and heritage in a month-long Mes Chamoru campaign at T Galleria by DFS, Guam.
The campaign was officially launched on 1 March when as part of the kick-off DFS Guam was presented with a legislative resolution from Guam Legislative Senator Amanda Shelton, the Chairperson on Tourism, who was joined by the Office of the Vice Chair and the Mayor of Tumon.
They were joined by industry partners, guests, employees and tourists at an event which included live local music, cultural dance performances by the Inetnon Gef Pago dance troupe, local breakfast delicacies and fresh coconut juice.
These are all symbols of Guam’s unique and historic culture which is celebrated by Mes Chamoru, Guamanian for Guam history and local Chamorro heritage.
Since it entered the Guam travel retail market in the 1970s (originally in duty paid), DFS has always showcased Guam’s culture, artists and businesses in various exhibitions and local events during the annual celebrations. The travel retailer has also played a major role in the creation of Guam’s first incubator programme for small business entrepreneurs: GUMA (Guam Unique Merchandise & Arts).
DFS Group Vice President Operations Mid Pacific Rachel Tan said: “Biba Mes Chamoru, Biba DFS. This month, we wanted to celebrate the uniqueness of Guam and the people, culture and arts within the destination.”
Throughout March, visitors to T Galleria by DFS, Guam enjoyed in-store promotions and activities including carabao rides, fresh coconut juice, cultural dance performances, coconut weaving demonstrations, flower lei making, a photo exhibition by Taiche Guahan and locally-inspired fashions by cultural innovative designer, Roquin Siongco.
